Stockholm, Sweden, Wednesday 6 March 2024 - Commerce platform provider Focalpay announces its international expansion to Iceland, with a strategic partnership with Heimkaup. As part of the partnership, Focalpay’s commerce platform that includes checkout, backoffice and payment functionality will be rolled out across Heimkaup’s stores from Q1 2024 onwards.
Heimkaup is a growing Icelandic grocery retailer, which in addition to an online store includes 10-11 convenience stores, Lyfjaval pharmacy, Orkan on the go stores and Extra stores. Focalpay has been selected to support the retailer in its strategic digitalization journey. Together the companies will enable agile and scalable checkout and back office operations.
With Focalpay, Heimkaup aims to improve the manned tills and self checkouts, while also adding new checkout options such as Mobile POS, Self Scan, and Scan & Pay. The Focalpay platform is set to empower in-store employees with new technology, while enabling customers to use multiple self-service shopping options for a frictionless experience.
Greta Maria Gretarsdottir, CEO at Heimkaup, said: “We’re very excited to start this partnership with Focalpay. Together, we can create enjoyable, modern shopping journeys where both our customers and staff feel that we elevate the whole experience. We selected Focalpay as our strategic partner in our digitization journey when we realized the possibilities with their new approach to retail architecture. With Focalpay we can innovate faster, scale quicker and build a safe retail IT landscape. We’re becoming more agile with our technology and the shopping experiences we offer.”
Birkir Veigarsson, CEO at Focalpay, said: “Today, many grocery retailers have software that forces their customers and staff to leave their technology behind when shopping. We want to change that, and together with Heimkaup, we’ll be able to do just that for their customers. This partnership is exciting as Heimkaup will use our commerce platform at both chain- and store level. On top of that it will also disrupt the Icelandic retail landscape all the way to the customer experience and checkout. Furthermore, it leads to our international expansion, something we’re very proud of - and something we’re looking forward to continuing with.”
